ABOUT

“I believe that magic is art, and that art is literally magic. Art is, like magic, the science of manipulating symbols, words or images, to achieve changes in consciousness.

Indeed to cast a spell is simply to spell, to manipulate words, to change peoples consciousness, and this is why I believe that an artist or writer is the closest thing in the contemporary world to a shaman.”

- Alan Moore

Johanna Polle (pronouns: she/her) is an independent artist, author, and illustrator. She was born and raised in Northern Germany. After her graduation in media and communication studies and art history from university, Johanna worked in a cinema for a couple of years until she re-discovered her passion for art in 2017.

Johanna is a self taught artist who has been fully self-employed since 2019. While she does the occasional freelance commission, she mostly focuses on creating and selling her own pagan-themed artworks. Johanna runs her own online shop and has published one artbook called “Magick at Home” in 2020 prior to starting her work on The European Goddesses and Spirits Oracle Deck.

Her art is an extension of her individual pagan craft and studies. It is both spiritually charged and deeply personal. She strives to create art that connects with her audience on a deeper level and enriches their own spiritual journeys.

Johanna has practiced witchcraft in different forms for almost all of her life. She eventually found her spiritual home in German and Scandinavian folk witchcraft, and has experiences in (ritual) workings with groups.

Nowadays, Johanna practices mostly as a solitary witch. She uses a small number of tried and tested tarot and oracle decks in her personal craft for occasional readings for herself and close friends.

Johanna currently lives with her partner and their two cats in Lower Saxony. In her free time she loves to hang out with the local crows, read horror books, and go exploring in nature.
